Contemporary art practice is no longer bound to realistic representation and the artist is free to express and explore ideas through whatever methods best communicate them. The re-interpreting of conventional images and concepts has allowed artists to question what has come before, re-interpreting the past and finding their own language to communicate their vision within an art context. The course will explore a wide range of art materials and techniques to find visual solutions to a problem or theme.
You will be introduced to art practices and challenged to investigate current ideas and beliefs, explore new materials and methods and respond to your world in a meaningful and creative way. The theoretical aspects of this course focus on gaining an appreciation for art in contemporary society as well as from past cultures.
