Unit Information

Do you love nature, beautiful places and environmental issues? This multidisciplinary unit on landscape is for you. In this course, we will explore the importance of the land to the indigenous people of Australia and how the French Impressionist artists sought to capture the fleeting effects of light on the landscape.

You will be guided to paint a layered Impressionist style landscape on canvas, practicing mixing colours in a sophisticated manner. Clay will be our next medium, to create forms inspired by the Great Barrier Reef, communicating an environmental message. We will also study the important West Australian exhibition Sculptures By The Sea. To round out this unit of work the class will experiment with collograph printing, looking at the theme of fire and its effect on the Australian landscape.
