Course Information

In the Music Genre Study elective, you will explore the evolution of contemporary music from 1950’s Rock’n’Roll to 1980’s Synth-Pop and beyond. You will recognise and distinguish between the characteristics of musical sub-genres from a range of contexts. Opportunities will be provided to develop skills, knowledge, and an understanding and appreciation of Music as an art form. You will reflect, offer, and accept feedback to improve and refine your music making, and justify musical choices when composing and performing. You will compare and discuss the music you listened to, explaining your musical preferences.

Areas covered will include:

·           The History and development of Music

·           Theory & Elements of Music

·           Technology in Music: GarageBand/ recording/ song writing/ composition

·           Ensemble work in a variety of formats


You are encouraged to learn an Instrument or voice to enhance your understanding of the concepts covered in this elective.
