Governor’s School STEM Awards: Finalist
This week Joseph Banks Secondary College was announced as a finalist in the 2021 Governor’s School STEM Awards by the Hon. Kim Beazley AC, Governor of Western Australia, along with the Hon. Roger Cook MLA MLA, Minister for Science and the Hon. Sue Ellery MLC, Minister for Education and Training.
The awards recognise and celebrate Western Australian primary and secondary schools that demonstrate excellence in leadership, advocacy, engagement and achievements in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.
On Wednesday, the judging panel visited us to hear from students about how they are engaging with STEM learning opportunities at Joseph Banks Secondary College. A big thank you to all of our staff and students who participated in the morning, to share their learning about SciScope, CoRE, P-TECH, Cyber security, Certificate III Information Technology, Certificate III Laboratory Skills, Robotics, Integrated Studies, Formula1 in Schools STEM Challenge, Space in Schools, eSports, Tech Sisters Connect, Cheryl Praeger Mathematics Academy for Girls and many other STEM subjects and initiatives.
Awards recipients will be announced in November.
The Awards support the Western Australian Government’s State STEM skills strategy by highlighting the importance of developing a whole-of-school STEM culture, where STEM learning is embraced by the school principal, leadership team and teachers with a resulting positive impact on students, parents and the community.
