3D Design and Engineering: Formula 1 in Schools Technology and Engineering Challenge

Domain: Technologies
Timetable: Trimester 1, 2 or 3
Length of Course: 1 Trimester

Course Information

This is a thrilling and challenging course designed to inspire and engage students in the world of motorsports and engineering. During the course, students will be introduced to the principles of design, engineering, and technology that underpin the world of Formula One racing. They will learn about aerodynamics, materials science, computer-aided design (CAD), Fusion360, and other key concepts that are used to design and build high-performance vehicles.

At the end of the course, students will showcase their creations at a race event, where they will compete against other teams from around the world. This will be a thrilling opportunity for students to put their skills to the test, demonstrate their knowledge and creativity, and engage with their peers in a fun and exciting environment. The challenge will involve designing, building, and racing a miniature Formula One car using 3D printing and other cutting-edge technologies. Students in Year 10 who elect to participate in the Challenge will work in small project teams to design a balsa wood F1 model race car using CAD software. You will then manufacture your car on a CNC router to race against other schools in Western Australia and, potentially, the Australian finals. Teams will document the entire process in a portfolio.
