Governor’s School STEM Awards: Winner

Award winners of the Governor’s School STEM Awards have been announced at a ceremony, hosted by Governor of Western Australia, the Hon. Kim Beazley at Government House.

Congratulations to Joseph Banks Secondary College who received the Leadership Excellence Award in the Secondary School category for the Governor’s School STEM Award.

Science Minister Roger Cook acknowledged award recipients and their outstanding student participation in STEM education for this year.

“The winners of this year’s Governor’s School STEM Awards have gone above and beyond to develop engaging and supportive STEM learning environments.”

The Governor’s School STEM Awards were established to recognise the support and commitment of school principals and leadership teams in developing their schools’ science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education programs. The Awards identify high quality outcomes and approaches in STEM subjects as well as in the way STEM teaching is integrated across learning areas.

The Awards aim to raise awareness of the importance of STEM education and incentivise school leadership to support their teachers in undertaking STEM initiatives.

The awards recognise and celebrate Western Australian primary and secondary schools that demonstrate excellence in leadership, advocacy, engagement and achievements in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

On Wednesday, the judging panel visited us to hear from students about how they are engaging with STEM learning opportunities at Joseph Banks Secondary College. A big thank you to all of our staff and students who participated in the morning, to share their learning about SciScope, CoRE, P-TECH, Cyber security, Certificate III Information Technology, Certificate III Laboratory Skills, Robotics, Integrated Studies, Formula1 in Schools STEM Challenge, Space in Schools, eSports, Tech Sisters Connect, Cheryl Praeger Mathematics Academy for Girls and many other STEM subjects and initiatives.

Awards recipients will be announced in November.

The Awards support the Western Australian Government’s State STEM skills strategy by highlighting the importance of developing a whole-of-school STEM culture, where STEM learning is embraced by the school principal, leadership team and teachers with a resulting positive impact on students, parents and the community.
