Workplace Learning
Year 11 and 12 Workplace Learning
In addition to completing college bases courses in Year 11 and 12, Workplace Learning provides students with the opportunity to spend a period of time in a real workplace of their choice. It is a valuable opportunity which can support the transition from the college to post-school, which can provide students with the opportunity to trial different industries that they may be interested in as a future career pathway post-school.
Workplace Learning provides Year 11 and 12 students with the opportunity to gain knowledge about a particular job and further insight into an occupation and industry, where they can develop their professional and personal skills and provide them with a competitive edge for the future. Students also get the chance to develop their self-confidence and communication skills which are vital tools in supporting them to achieve their future goals.
Not only is workplace learning a valuable experience in helping learn what they do or don’t want to pursue as a future career pathway, students also will gain ‘C’ Grades towards their Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). Every 55 Hours of work placement which is logged will earn students one ‘C’ Grade. Students can earn a maximum of two C Grades in Year 11 and two in Year 12 through their career exploration with workplace Learning

In some cases, these are organised by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
How to apply for Workplace Learning
- Students are required to discuss with their relevant Leading Teachers the possibility of being released from the college to attend a relevant workplace learning opportunity. Students must be on track with all schoolwork prior to being released.
- Students are required to read the Student Handbook and complete the General and Industry Specific SMARTMove inductions, which is a requirement before students can participate in Workplace Learning (please see website noted in the student handbook). Once the student has read the handbook they must complete and sign back page and hand it with all other workplace learning request forms. For further information, students can speak with Belinda Lawrie, Workplace Learning Coordinator in the Senior School Office.
- Families are required to find a host employer/workplace who agree to take a student on Workplace Learning, for either a block placement or day release (Year 12 only).
Once students have completed these three key steps, they need to complete and have signed the Workplace Learning Authority Form and hand into the VET and WPL Coordinator along with a copy of their SMARTMove Induction Certificates and handbook checklist page. These forms can be found below or can be collected from the VET and WPL Office in Senior School.
* Please note that there is a course charge of $50 for students to complete Workplace Learning.
