Through a collaborative, problem-solving approach the Mathematics Domain at Joseph Banks Secondary College builds curious learners with strong foundations in additive and multiplicative thinking skills. The Mathematics Domain offers students opportunities to diversify their understanding of Mathematics through several choices in Year 9 and 10, purposely designed to support students in their development of mathematical thinking, or to prepare them for a career in a STEM pathway.

This elective utilises online learning platforms to diagnose mathematical skills that students find challenging.
This subject will involve working mathematically to solve complex problems, as well as enrichment through investigations and exploration of mathematical concepts.

Maths in Business and Economics is focussed on developing mathematics knowledge and understanding through contexts such as money, loans, share market, real estate and currency exchange.
This course provides opportunities for you to develop complex mathematic understanding to delve deeper into algebraic concepts and apply your understanding to create mathematical models.
This course focuses on the use of mathematics to solve problems in contexts that involve financial modelling, geometric and trigonometric analysis, graphical and network analysis, and growth and decay in sequences.
The Mathematics Essential General course focuses on using mathematics effectively, efficiently and critically to make informed decisions.
This course focuses on the use of calculus and statistical analysis.
This course provides opportunities, beyond those presented in the Mathematics Methods ATAR course, to develop rigorous mathematical arguments and proofs, and to use mathematical models more extensively.
