Welcome to Joseph Banks Secondary College

Joseph Banks Secondary College is an innovative and forward-thinking public school committed to fostering a vibrant culture of excellence, opportunity and success for students, staff and the wider community. Located in Banksia Grove, approximately 40 kilometres from the Perth CBD, the College serves students from surrounding suburbs including Carramar and Tapping.

Central to the College’s vision is a commitment to creating a culture where excellence, innovation, opportunity and success are embedded in every aspect of school life. Through challenging, engaging and intentional instruction, the school develops knowledgeable, respectful and capable young adults who are prepared to thrive in the future.

We offer High Performance Programs across the Arts and Sports domains. Our Creative and Performing Arts High Performance Program supports students interested in visual art, drama, media, and music. This program nurtures imagination and creative excellence and provides the opportunity for students to showcase their skills through external competitions and performances, and as part of whole school productions.

For budding athletes, the College offers High Performance Programs in Soccer and Netball, and a specialist Rugby program. These sporting programs build strong foundations, elevate performance, further develops advanced skills and game strategies, and provides a pathway to a Certificate II & III in Sport & Recreation. Within these programs we have seen students achieve, local, state and national selection.

Joseph Banks SC is the Northern Hub for Excellence in Science, Space and STEM Education. Our STEM strategy includes four outstanding programs, SCIscope, CoRE, P-TECH and WASSEC, offered to our primary school students, our secondary students and all students across the state. Our STEM approach is daring and valiant, and as it develops further our strong reputation for excellence in STEM education will continue to grow.

Excitingly at Joseph Banks SC, the Western Australian Space Science Education Centre (WASSEC) opened in 2023. A State-of-the-art facility, WASSEC offers immersive, curriculum-programs including Mission to MarsPlants in Space, and Cybersecurity. These programs combine hands-on experimentation, simulation-based learning, and real-world problem solving within purpose-built learning environments including a simulated Mars surface, Mission Control, and specialised cybersecurity and STEM laboratories. Students explore planetary science, robotics, space exploration, environmental systems, digital security, and emerging technologies while developing critical thinking and teamwork skills.

Our focus is on delivering high-quality teaching and providing a broad range of opportunities that enable every student to achieve success. We are committed to developing the College as a centre of excellence in both teacher development and student achievement. Our programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of learners, ranging from targeted support initiatives to extension and enrichment opportunities for academically talented students, including a strong and successful ATAR pathway.
