About Joseph Banks Secondary College
Joseph Banks Secondary College is an Independent Public School in the suburb of Banksia Grove, approximately 40 kilometres from the Perth CBD. We serve students from surrounding suburbs including Carramar and Tapping. As part of our vision for the College students are included in a culture of excellence, innovation, opportunity and success. Our school develops students into knowledgeable and respectful young adults through challenging, engaging and intentional instruction. Students are given a number of pathways on which to excel during their secondary education, including both curricular and extra-curricular programmes.
Our Creative and Performing Arts Academy supports students interested in visual art, drama, media, dance and music. Amongst other activities students will be able to present their work at semester showcases, art exhibitions, and as part of whole school productions. For budding athletes, the College offers Academies in Cheerleading, Rugby, Soccer and Triathlon, while also offering a range of other sports including Netball and AFL. Students can compete in their chosen sport at an interschool level and many students find success in local clubs and competitions due to their work on the College teams.
As a developing and growing College, we were successful in our application to become a STEM TDS school when the initiative was launched through the Department of Education in 2016. Our leadership in STEM has continued and the College has created partnerships with the CoRE Learning Foundation and the international P-Tech program in order to foster student pathways in this area. Joseph Banks Secondary College is the Northern Perth P-Tech specialising in Cybersecurity, offering students opportunities for tertiary pathways to both TAFE and University. We also run SciScope, program for students from local primary schools which is aimed at developing our primary students as young scientists. To further develop our STEM strategy, we look forward to opening our Space Academy in 2023.
The focus of our work at Joseph Banks is on quality teaching and provision of the widest range of opportunities for the young adults who attend our College. We are developing the school as a centre for best practice in teacher development and student achievement. Programs range from support initiatives through to extension and challenge for students who are academically talented, including a strong ATAR program.
