Green Team
The Green Team was created after a small group of staff and students conducted a Waste Audit in 2019 and found that something needed to change in the way that the college was dealing with waste. In 2020 we were accredited as a WasteWise school and received a grant to support the WasteWise principles of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose. In 2021 The Green Team was established with more staff members and students. This includes staff members from a range of communities, a finance committee representative, an executive representative, gardeners, cleaners and support staff. We are very lucky to be supported by our P&C. Our students are from a variety of communities and year groups within the college as well as our student council representatives. The Green Team is a student led, staff supported initiative.
The Green Team is connected to The Garden Club and together, we see a future of sustainability at Joseph Banks Secondary College. We believe that young people deserve to have a voice for a clean and sustainable future. The Green Team aim to educate more staff, students and the wider community to follow the Waste Wise principles.
The Green Team are involved in many small group projects and initiatives. In 2021 the students have conducted another Waste Audit, have been involved in fortnightly meetings as a group and senior school students have met with executive staff to discuss ideas. We are excited to been involved in upcoming sustainability events such as National Tree Day, Plastic Free July, The Wanneroo show and other WasteWise events.
